My sculptures are a negotiation between the stone and me. This means that each sculpture that I make is determined by the shape of the stone combined with my imagination. For some reason I often end up with human and animal figures.
It takes deep concentration to combine the shape of the stone with one’s imagination. Imaginations may come or may not come at all. It feels good when they do come. One has to search for ideas otherwise no sculpture will be made if there is no idea. Well after gathering some ideas or imaginations, the next thing is to select the best idea, the one which you have the biggest chance of making the nicest sculpture, most of the time it is the simplest idea that you are looking for. Once the idea is selected one can now start carving, from this stage everything that one do must be fun. I always make sure that my tools are sharp it makes the job easier, and also keep a close eye for possibilities of spicing up the sculpture while carving.
